The Sparrow Early Career Researcher Grant is open to Ph.D. students and PostDoc researchers whose area of research matches the topic areas listed on the How It Works page.

Science is best when it includes diverse voices. That's why we want to encourage researchers from all over the world to apply to our Early Career Research Prize.

Of note: we rely on Wise to send the prize money to the winner's institutions. Please check HERE to ensure your country can be accommodated before applying.

  • The Grant is $500 USD for the Winner and a paid commission for the Finalists

  • The Grant application period is quarterly. We are now fielding applications for the December 31 deadline. 

  • Valid applications considered for the Grant consist of details of the applicant, a summary based on 1 topic listed on the How It Works page and submitted in the application period in the format of a Sparrow Digest as per the content on our website

  • Applicants have the opportunity to suggest their own topics which will be assessed by the Editorial Team without affecting their chances to win

  • If you win, you may only apply one more time in a calendar year. If you are not the winner, you may re-apply each quarter (even if you are a finalist).

  • Valid applications will be assessed by Sparrow’s Team and the Winners will be announced during the next calendar month after the application period

  • Receiving the Grant is contingent on the winner agreeing to finalize their submitted summary for publication and implement suggested changes by Sparrow’s Integrity Checker and Editor

  • The Prize will be paid to the Winner’s institutional department

  • Payment of the $500 Prize is contingent on the winner having been accepted to attend an academic conference (must show proof of acceptance).

  • The Paid Commission for each Finalist is contingent on the finalist agreeing to finalize their submitted summary for publication and implement suggested changes by the Integrity Checker and Editor

  • The Winner and Finalists agree to be announced on Sparrow social media platforms

  • The Grant and Commissions will be paid at the end of the calendar month when the Sparrow Team announces their decision if the relevant invoice (template will be supplied) is received by the 19th day of the same month

  • Sparrow reserves the right to withdraw the competition at any time
